As a Kiwi who worked for an American company, I always understood your time relationship. Additional is so much easier than subtraction. But I totally agree with your framing.

Yesterday I randomly realized that instead of awkwardly refreezing my chicken or worrying about it going bad in the fridge I could just bake the whole pack of chicken breasts at once for the week. This is in some sense the least original idea I've ever had (the concept of preserving chicken for longer by putting it all in a fire is, well, the original human invention), but still the idea of "you can just do meal prep" was somehow original and new to me. The bar for a useful invention can be astonishingly low, for the right person.
